Youth Development at the Core
Most of our resources are invested in
youth development. All of the youth we serve are socially, emotionally,
and/or economically disadvantaged. Research proves that these kids are
at a higher risk for:
- substance abuse
- delinquency
- teen pregnancy
- school drop out
- and violence.
Using a positive youth
development approach, however, can incorporate the support and
opportunities necessary for young people to succeed both developmentally
and academically (National Research Council, 2002).
Our standards include:
- utilizing nationally recognized best-practice principles for youth development and education
- maintaining very low child to adult ratio standards (6:1)
- and ensuring that all staff are highly trained.
Through participation in
our program, we can demonstrate that children grow socially,
emotionally, and intellectually. We know that children do best, however,
when their families are strong, capable, and financially independent.
So we partner with many community organizations to strengthen the entire
family unit and achieve family self-sufficiency.
